It’s no secret that I’m a fan of Apple products, so I found these quotes from the two most senior executives very insightful. How would you respond if asked about what motivates and guides your life, or the ethos of you church, company, whatever?
“Remembering that I’ll be dead soon is the most important thing I’ve ever encountered to help me make the big choices in life,” he said, “because almost everything – all external expectations, all pride, all fear of embarrassment or failure – these things just fall away in the face of death, leaving only what is truly important.
“Remembering that you are going to die is the best way I know to avoid the trap of thinking you have something to lose.
“You are already naked. There is no reason not to follow your heart.”

We believe we’re on the face of the Earth to make great products, and that’s not changing. We’re constantly focusing on innovating. We believe in the simple, not the complex. We believe that we need to own and control the primary technologies behind the products that we make, and participate only in markets where we can make a significant contribution. We believe in saying no to thousands of projects, so that we can really focus on the few that are truly important and meaningful to us. We believe in deep collaboration and cross-pollinisation of our groups, which allows us to innovate in a way others cannot. And frankly, we don’t settle for anything less than excellence in every group in the company, and we have the self-honesty to admit where we’re wrong, and the courage to change.
