An Inspiring Assembly

We had our annual Baptist Assembly today. In the past I would have rated it up there with putting manure on the garden. Stinky. But at least stuff grows in my garden.

With the structural changes that have taken place over the past 10 years the event has taken on a completely different purpose and tone and in fact was quite inspiring. Perhaps still not a meeting most people would want to give up a Saturday morning for, but I’ve become something of a ‘company man’, and it’s exciting to see what God is doing through our movement. Momentum

We’ve been in a good place as a church the last few weeks. We’ve had two excellent services in a row. An Indian lunch and cookbook launch followed by a very successful quiz night. Coming up we have a one day prayer retreat ahead of our trip to India in a few weeks. Then Christmas after that. Talk about full on! In between some of our mums are launching a Mops group and Andy (my colleague) and I are doing some planning for 2011. As much as I’m enjoying this place, I am looking forward to some time off in the new year.

We’re finding momentum and really want to keep it!

Fortunately, once something has momentum, it’s easier to keep it going. One of the keys for EBC has been the faith step to move from maintenance to mission by calling Andy to be our community pastor. He’s responsible for outreach and visitor connection. This is has given us a strong, if small, team. I can’t overstate what a difference that’s made.

I’d say roll on 2011, but we’re enjoying the ride to the end of 2010 first!
